Antoinette Brown Award Honors Rev. Dr. Sharon Ellis Davis

The United Church of Christ presented the Antoinette Brown Award to FaithTrust Institute trainer Rev. Dr. Sharon Ellis Davis, as well as Rev. Traci Blackmon,of Christ the King UCC in Florissant, Mo,. and RevGalBlogPals for their inspiring work.

"Like Antoinette Brown, each of these women embodies the spirit of Christ who blazes a trail where there was once no path, and catalyzes new possibilities in the world," said the Rev. Elizabeth Dilley, UCC minister for ministers in local churches.

The award continues to celebrate the life and ministry of Brown—who was ordained by the Congregational Church in 1853—and all women in ordained ministry who exemplify Brown's spirit of trailblazing leadership in church and society.

Rev. Dr. Sharon Ellis Davis was a Chicago Police Officer for 31 years, a police chaplin, and has dedicated herself to helping survivors of domestic and sexual abuse. Her recent book, Battered African American Women: A Study of Gender Entrapment examines the social, cultural, and historical influences that impact African American women who are abused. Rev. Dr. Ellis Davis has been a trainer for FaithTrust Institute for almost a decade.
