FaithTrust Commemorates 16 Days of Activism with Video Campaign

In support of this campaign, FaithTrust has brought together voices from around the world who are speaking out to end gender based violence. Over the next 16 days, new videos will be posted daily as we hear from our colleagues on a range of topics.

The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence is a global campaign dedicated to ending gender-based violence. The Center for Women’s Global Leadership is the global coordinator. The start and end dates of the Campaign are November 25, International Day for the Elimination of Gender-Based Violence, and December 10, Human Rights Day. These dates were chosen to emphasize that gender-based violence is a violation of human rights. This 16-day period also highlights other significant dates including November 29, International Women Human Rights Defenders Day; December 1 - World AIDS Day; and December 6, which marks the Anniversary of the Montreal Massacre.

FaithTrust Institute has convened prominent faith leaders from across the world who are raising their voices to end gender based violence. Between November 27 and December 10 we will be hearing from colleagues on a range of topics related to the 16 Days Campaign. You can be a part of this campaign. Watch our short videos released each day over the 16 days by signing up for daily emails, connecting with us on Facebook, or visiting this page.

The 16 Days Campaign calls individuals and groups around the world to eliminate all forms of violence against women by:

  • raising awareness about gender-based violence as a human rights issue at the local, national, regional and international levels
  • strengthening local work around violence against women
  • establishing a clear link between local and international work to end violence against women
  • providing a forum in which organizers can develop and share new and effective strategies
  • demonstrating the solidarity of women around the world organizing against violence against women
  • creating tools to pressure governments to implement promises made to eliminate violence against women
