SEATTLE, WA--FaithTrust Institute, funded by the Office on Violence Against Women, U.S. Department of Justice, is partnering with national and regional youth leaders to address teen exposure to domestic violence and teen relationship violence. The National Youth Leadership Roundtable will take place December 5-7, 2010, in West Palm Beach, Florida.
This national roundtable will be the beginning of a collaborative effort to build a multifaith network of national allies to more effectively address teen exposure to domestic violence and teen relationship violence in faith communities.
The goals of the summit are to:
- Discuss and develop common solutions
- Plan for future work together and independently
- Develop a National Declaration on Teen Relationship Violence in Faith Communities
"Relationship violence affects millions of youth in the United States every year. Studies show that youth exposed to domestic violence are more likely to become involved in domestic violence as adults. It is vital that faith leaders join voices with teen advocates across the nation to encourage youth to pursue healthy relationships and reduce their risk of becoming victims or perpetrators of traditional and/or domestic violence. Faith leaders generally lack the tools and knowledge to address teen exposure to domestic violence and teen relationship violence. This roundtable will be the first step in our strategic plan to educate and equip youth leaders from diverse religious traditions across the nation," stated Rev. Dr. Aleese Moore-Orbih, Director of Training and Consulting at FaithTrust Institute.
