About the Author: Chaplain Susan J. Katz, MA, Spiritual Health Practitioner, Musician

Susan is a hospital Chaplain providing secular as well as faith-based services to people of all genders and abilities. She has served in care homes, correctional facilities, urban health and addictions treatment centres in both the United States and Canada. Susan lives in Vancouver, Canada, and is a Professional Member of the Neshama: Association of Jewish Chaplains, and an Associate Member of the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care. Owens and his daughter Julie Owens shared their story in FaithTrust Institute's video Broken Vows: Religious Perspectives on Domestic Violence. Together, they helped educate a generation of spiritual leaders and advocates about the religious and spiritual needs of victims/survivors.

As a Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, she dedicated herself to women's empowerment within the Catholic church and the wider community. FaithTrust Institute was honored to have her as a member of our board of directors from 2009-2013. We are grateful to have been part of her inspiring life and work.

The Interfaith Coalition Against Domestic Violence, as part of the National Task Force to End Sexual & Domestic Violence, is offering a toolkit for demanding the US Senate take up the bill to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act. The House of Representatives passed H.R. 1585, the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act, on April 4, 2019. For the past four months, the bill, which requires Senate approval to be enacted, has been sitting with no advancement for a vote in the Senate. This toolkit provides information and strategies for contacting your Senators to urge them to insist that the Senate pass H.R. 1585. The Congress is currently in recess in August, which makes this the perfect time to contact your Senators.
